Cerberus --- concept by Devon Cady-Lee

Hey all!
This started as a quick fun sculpt, and then I wanted to texture it and finalize it, but someone in the world was thinking the same way as me and posted their final interpretation of this concept before I did. So, I decided it was nice as a plain sculpt and to move on!
Devon Cady-Lee's concept was absolutely fun to use.

Tasty

Touched up this speed sculpt. I wanted to have a cave character that used his strong sense of taste to survive. He's a cutie!

Jugger

This was inspired by one of Sean McNally's sketches. Great stuff! Check it out: http://mcnallyism.blogspot.com/2011/10/bots-n-such.html

Lord of the Wild

So this started as a speed sculpt months ago.
I came back to it yesterday because I had an idea for him.
I've been reading mythology books lately, and i liked the idea of doing Lord Pan. Basically a wild/nature god and looks like a satyr. But, i wanted to do a sort of more godly/father-nature thing. So, with the idea in mind for inspiration, i created my own Lord of the Wild. Sculpting took a day to lay down the main forms. Another to do the details. And then texturing took a whole day (lots of back and forth with the texturing). Cheers!

Goblin --- Andre Mealha's Concept

Concept by Andre Mealha.

I had a hard time keeping the textures simple, so I fought with it for a while. The final result is okay. I like the high poly sculpture a lot better. I debated whether or not to change the style to a more realistic one, and decided against it. It's "meh" for my first low poly character.

Atlantis Girl

I had a random idea a while ago~ if the guy and girl from Disney's Atlantis had a kid, and she needed to travel between her world and other times to save.... stuff. So I had this idea, so i picked a style i wanted to do and did it. Still finishing last things, but i gotta move on for a couple days and get other things out of the way for GDC.

Cheers!

Day Play 2 ----concept by Laura Slater

This is from Laura Slater's gorgeous concept. This is a quick sculpt that i did today. Im trying to do a couple every week to take a break from my main projects and have a bit more fun. It took 3.5 hours. Franks!

Day Play ---concept by Randy Bishop

Took a day(about 4 days ago) and played in ZBrush. I don't always texture in zbrush, but when i do, it's becomes the most interesting man in the world.

Quick Sculpt

Took a couple hours(longer than I'd like).
Maybe someday I'll make him into a full creature...  ParrotMonkey!

Goat Killer

This was for a CGWorkshop class, taught by Bryan Wynia.
My thought process, is I wanted a creature to be the type that charges and knocks out his prey. So he needed to be fast, but bulky as well. How he eats, is he kills his prey and uses his tongue to drink the fluids. Because he has not lips, the hair in his mouth is meant to keep dirt and other unwantables out.
It was lots of fun, great instructor,  and i really learned a lot.

Yeti - Bryan Wynia online class

Im happy i got my first concept sculpt finished up. And even more pleased with how much I learned taking Bryan Wynia's class. And ready to learn more and do better the next time!
This is a yeti, named Fred. He's in a cave, snow/fog coming in through the entrance, looking a top the snowy mountain in front of him, to eat the humans camped there.
[for my 3d friends: zbrush, polypainting, and photoshop]

Chupacabra coming soon....

Update!

This is my model and below is the CreatureBox concept. Ive always loved their work especially their sketches. They make drawing look easy, and remind me to return to my 2d side:) This isn't the final render, but I'm graduating soon. So it's a preview for my reel to come. Enjoy!

And finally sculpted this guy some hair...

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Hello,
It's been a while! So I've been working on about 6 projects this term(And working on preparing on graduating in March!). 4 are characters and these next 2 are for my Low Poly modeling class. I've learned 3dsMax pretty well now. I was assigned a rocking horse and an exercise bike. We had to model a high and low poly and textures for both models. One of the models we needed to do an old and a new texture for it~ i chose the bike.
So! without further ado, this is what i turned in for the class.
The rest of my projects I'm working on, coming soon!
Thanks

For Now...

Right now, im out of school until mid July. So im using my time to finalize my Mechanic character, work on my girl illustration, and keep working on a couple of other projects on my mind. Maybe play some video games.
I love where i am in my life. There are many people to love, lots to learn, and life to enjoy.

I have found, that
The more we learn, the more we understand how little we know. And isn't that a beautiful thing? Not knowing everything, means you are tempted to try anything, and succeed in doing so.

Have fun enjoy yourself, and i will return with more work when i have it! Thanks

WIP --- girl illustration

This is an illustration I'm working on now. Its based on what I used to do when I was little... Didnt anyone else fly with their stuffed animals? If not, you missed out! Lots more modeling left to do, but the lighting test went well. Mmm vRay. Back to modeling!

Below is the Blockout and about a tenth of the renders that i narrowed down to. I like the girl jumping from right to left and the light in the same direction. After i model everything i'll decide if i want this layout, or flipped horizontally.
I did a quick design of the kitchen and i knew i wanted a dining set(An old one we had when i was little). I was trying to decide the positioning of objects, camera angle, placement of her to the window, and where i wanted the light and shadow to be. And the girl i quickly modeled in kind of a floaty pose, because i wasnt sure if i wanted to pose her as if she were landing or just in the beginning of jumping. I ended up going with a landing pose.

Hellboy and Zombie --- Character concepts by Dela Longfish

This is one of the latest ones I've done. Completed this last Spring. We had 2 weeks to take 1 character concept, from a 2d artist, and model it so that the character was not only 3d, but also modeled as if it were for an animation. So, you couldn't just extrude from planes, you had to make the character work all the way around.
I decided to do 2 characters.

I chose the artist Dela Longfish. Look him up! He has really amazing work.
I modeled, textured, illustrated and rendered.
The picture below, has Dela Lonfish's artwork, next to mine. Along with a turntable for the zombie.

Mr. Mechanic

Our assignment was to do a character. I completed it in Fall 2011.
To start, I cut out a painting I had finished for another class(for the head), and re-drew the body so I could model him.
He's my Mr. Mechanic.
I'm actually going back to work on him(fix the towel in his hands, add some hair..) before school starts in a few weeks. Now that fibermesh has come out, it'll be a faster way to add hair and complete his look. Maybe I'll texture him, but sometimes I like models without textures.

Male Torso

This was an assignment to do a male torso. I completed it Fall2011, and re-rendered him today! It was very nice to see him again...
I made a base mesh in maya, sculpted him in zBrush, reTop-ed in Topogun and continued sculpting details in zBrush. Originally i had rendered him with mental ray in Maya. But, there's some added bonuses when you render in zBrush.
This is one of my first modeling assignments, about 3 years ago. We were to do something Hard Surface, and we had 6 weeks. It's the oldest one I will put up, just because it was a pretty long time ago and we were just getting in to how to model correctly, and such. And I've learned a heck of a lot since then. But! It's fun to see the progress.
